The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has informed the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) that it requires 45 days to begin processing refunds for certain Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods. This request comes after the CIT issued an order on May 24, 2024, mandating these refunds. The additional time is needed for CBP to adequately prepare its systems and personnel to implement the court's directive smoothly and accurately.

This development directly impacts importers who paid specific Section 301 tariffs on List 3 and List 4A goods from China. The refunds apply to duties collected between September 2018 and August 2019. During this period, the tariffs in question were 25% for List 3 goods and 7.5% for List 4A goods.
